Trip Delay

What this covers

If your trip is delayed for more than 12 hours due to a covered reason, the American Express Green Card can help reimburse you for reasonable extra expenses, up to $300 per trip. Just remember, you need to pay for the entire trip with your card to qualify. Be sure to check the official benefits details and file any claims through the benefits administrator.

Eligibility & conditions

• The Covered Trip must be delayed more than twelve (12) hours.
• You must charge the full amount of a Covered Trip to your Eligible Card, or the full amount in combination with your Eligible Card and accumulated points on your Eligible Card, certificates, vouchers, or coupons, or discounts awarded from a frequent flyer program or similar reward program.
• Covered Trip means a period of round-trip travel to one or more destinations other than an Eligible Traveler's city of residence that returns by Common Carrier to the city of departure and does not exceed three hundred sixty-five (365) days.
• Delay must be caused by a Covered Loss: (1) inclement weather; (2) terrorist action or hijacking; (3) a Common Carrier's equipment failure, as documented by the Common Carrier; or (4) lost or stolen passports or travel documents.
• Coverage is limited to 2 claims per Eligible Card per 12 consecutive month period.
• Coverage is secondary to and in excess of any other applicable insurance or benefit available to the Eligible Traveler, including benefits provided by the Common Carrier.
• You must notify the Administrator of your claim within sixty (60) days of the Covered Loss or the claim may not be honored.
